Wynns Centenary Limited Release Centenary Shiraz Cabernet 1991
The 1991 Centenary Shiraz Cabernet was released to mark a century since John Riddoch’s first vines in Coonawarra, a fitting tribute to one of Australia’s most enduring wine estates. This blend of Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon showcases the best of Coonawarra’s famed terra rossa soils with the Cabernet providing structure and grip, the Shiraz adding plush mid-palate richness.
Now more than three decades on, the wine remains remarkably vibrant, its deep garnet core edged with mature brick tones that hint at graceful evolution. On the nose, cedar-tinged blackcurrant and mulberry sit alongside layers of earth, tobacco leaf, leather and spice, with whispers of cigar and old chocolate rounding the aromatic profile.
The palate still carries a core of bright fruit framed by balanced acidity and well-integrated tannins, showing that thoughtful blending and terroir pedigree can sustain vitality long into maturity. Notes of gravel, mint and savoury herb weave through a finish that is long, textured and utterly compelling; a testament to both the vintage and Wynns’ commitment to classic red wine craftsmanship.
